Brown Brothers® sponsored BTCC driver Aiden Moffat wins Independent trophy at Donnington Park

22/04/16

British Touring Car driver Aiden Moffat had a strong race weekend at Donnington Park wining the Independent trophy and finishing 7th in Race 3 in the British Touring Car Championship 2016.

In Free Practice 2, Aiden finished in P4, with a blistering lap time of 1:10.455, just three-tenths of a second behind Josh Cook who achieved P1. With promising pace in the car during practice, Aiden was confident to achieve a good lap time and qualify for a good track position.

With qualifying just around the corner, the unpredictable British weather turned. Rain and hailstones came down during the qualifying session causing drivers to use the wet tyres for most of the session. Aiden pushed for his best time, but the track evolved quickly towards the end of the session when the sunshine arrived to dry the tarmac. With the sudden weather change Aiden switched to slicks, but it was too late, getting caught by a red flag compromising his session.

Channelling the energy into race 1, Aiden came p16 but with track knowledge and the car fired up for race 2 Aiden finished 9th, a good result heading into race 3.

Going into the final race Aiden commented “We had a little ballast going into the final race but the car still felt strong. So let’s get on with the job”. Aiden kept up a good pace and saw the Independent Trophy in his sight. He commented “Therefore keeping out of trouble I finished 7th place and got the independent win — it was a great way to end the weekend. Perhaps it wasn't the outright podium we were after but it was great to take home some silverware to reward all the guys and girls in Laser Tools Racing for all their hard work. Big thanks to all of the support from everyone, and also a massive thanks to my sponsors and last (but not least), the marshals”.

The next BTCC race weekend is on the 8th May at Thruxton. Be sure to follow @AidenMoffat16 & @BBDUK for the latest Aiden Moffat updates and News.
